1845 Pattern Cutlass . single edged, plain blade. Blackened, sheet steel guard (possibly a converted cavalry guard ) and top pommel. Blackened, cast steel, ribbed grip. Re-painted at some stage. Contained in its leather tooled scabbard with painted brass throat . Lower part of scabbard absent . Many cutlass had a varied life and late on in the 19th century some were made from various converted cavalry swords.
